Dana  Nelson

Dana Nelson / Steering Committee

Dana is a senior at Fordham University majoring in International Political Economy with minors in both Business Administration and Marketing. For the past three years, she has been the President of Students for Fair Trade, a club on campus that promotes a social justice approach to business and commerce including safe labor practices, living wages, and transparent supply chains. While club leader, she assumed management of Fordham’s established on-campus fair trade business, Amani, which sells artisanal goods from around the globe to students and faculty members in order to empower emerging economies. Part of her duties included organizing all on campus sales, accounting for inventory, and being responsible for marketing and publicity. Using her experience in managing the on-campus business, she has transitioning into overseeing all of Spes Nova student workers and providing guidance to the main strategy team on operations and expansion initiatives. She is passionate about sustainable, inclusive development and can not wait to see the impact that Spes Nova will bring to artisans around the globe.

Eleanor  Reserva

Eleanor Reserva / Steering Committee

Eleanor is an international graduate student taking MA in International Political Economy and Development (IPED). She has previous work experience in non-profit work in the Philippines. She now co-manages Spes Nova’s operations and external visibility through exploring possible initiatives and grants for the organization. She is passionate about international development and the role of market development and public-private finance to foster inclusive development.

Marissa  Piancone

Marissa Piancone / Student Leaders

Marissa is a sophomore at Fordham University's Gabelli School of Business planning to major in Finance and minor in Environmental Studies. She hopes to pursue a career in sustainable and socially innovative business. On campus, she is the Programmer for the Students for Fair Trade club and the Research Coordinator for the Fashion Sustainability Practicum for Fordham's Social Innovation Collaboratory. She hopes to make a positive social impact on the world through ethical business practices.

 

Tyler  Rozier

Tyler Rozier / Student Leaders

Tyler is currently a junior in the Gabelli School of Business pursuing a degree in Applied Accounting and Finance. Tyler is on his third year of working with Spes Nova, now currently heading the E-commerce Team, pushing the sales of the products as he sees how it contributes to the individual lives of each artisan. Tyler looks forward to expanding his knowledge with Spes Nova and the development of Spes Nova while gaining an amazing experience that he will use in the future.

 

Julia  Stusnick

Julia Stusnick / Service Learners and Volunteers

Julia Stusnick is a freshman at Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business with a Marketing major. As a service learner for Spes Nova, she helps the Social Media team to accomplish its goals in expanding its outreach and raising awareness of fair trade business practices. She joined this organization because she has a passion for business that promotes social justice and empowers its employees through fair labor practices. She is looking forward to expanding her knowledge on sustainable businesses and using social media as a marketing tool. Her hobbies include photography, running, and travelling.

Henry  Sternberg

Henry is a Freshman at Fordham College at Rose Hill. He is considering majoring in history. His hometown is New Milford, NJ. At the moment, he is learning the ropes of Spes Nova and excited to help out. He is also keeps himself occupied with volunteer work at Murray Weigel, Model UN, and Ballroom Dancing Club.

Alison Stauffer

Alison Stauffer / Service Learners and Volunteers

Alison is a sophomore at the Gabelli School of Business majoring in finance and minoring in sustainable business. Throughout Spring 2018, Alison worked on the Spes Nova event planning, sales, and inventory teams to grow Spes Nova's presence on Fordham's campus. During the summer of 2018, Alison is working part-time with Spes Nova's founder, Dr. Rengifo, to document the website as well as Spes Nova at Fordham's internal processes for partner universities to use as a model. As of December 2018, she is stepping up as the strategic lead with her colleague, Julia. They are eager to continue working with Spes Nova through their time at Fordham to build experience while making positive change.

Karmann Kahlon

Karmann Kahlon / Service Learners and Volunteers

Karmann Kahlon is currently a freshman at the Gabelli School of Business who intends to major in Finance with a minor in Marketing and a concentration in sustainable business. As a part of the sale and eventss planning team, Karmann plays an active role in planning out the scheduled sales events with her group members. Karmann's hometown is in the Amritsar district of Punjab in India, where there is a huge disparity in the minimum wages.

Dana Nelson is a sophomore at Fordham University studying International Political Economy with an International Business track. She is the President of Students for Fair Trade, a club on campus with promotes a social justice approach to business and commerce including safe labor practices, living wages, and transparent supply chains. As just a sophomore, she facilitated the transition of the fair trade business on campus from being run by a class to run by the Students for Fair Trade Club. Part of this included organizing all on campus sales, accounting for inventory, and being responsible for marketing and publicity. Using her experience in managing the on-campus business, she aspires to help Spes Nova run its first successful pilot at Fordham. She has a passion for socialentrepreneurship and mentors for Fordham’s chapter of the Compass Fellowship. This program provides freshmen the opportunity to start their own business ventures that havea socially conscious spin. This led her to intern in the Corporate Citizenship Department at the headquarters of a fashion company. In this position she works closely with Public Relations in developing the company’s social impact and its contribution to the overall company brand. Her hope for the future is to go into international economic development and sustainability.

Steve Carlsen

Steve Carlsen / Co-Founder

Co-founder of Spes Nova, and continues to serve as a Director. Steve has a 35-year career in the insurance and reinsurance industries, specializing in underwriting, pricing and managing catastrophic risk.  He was an early developer of capital consumption models through the application of modern portfolio theory to insurable risk. He was a co-founder of Endurance Specialty Holdings (ENH), where he continues to serve as a Director and member of its Risk and Finance Committees.  He also continues to provide consulting services to private equity groups and hedge funds investing in the insurance and insurance services sectors.Steve has an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Cornell University and received his PhD in Economics from Fordham University in May 2013.
