On Sunday, March 29th, Spes Nova celebrated Palm Sunday at mass while holding a sale outside the University Church. In honor of the Jesuit school spirit, we featured our very own small soapstone cross pendants made by our Kenyan artisans, as well as two new items: Angel figurines and Nativity scenes. The figures and Nativity scenes sold quickly, but the pendants sold even faster! Both proved to be our bestsellers as many mass attendees went home with both palm crosses and cross pendants.

The new Angel figurines and Nativity Scenes are sourced from our Kenyan artisans. The artisans are a part of the Nyabigena Soapstone Carvers Cooperative, an active member in the World Fair Trade Organization, located in Kisii, Kenya. This organization’s mission is to use its proceeds to advance education and fair job opportunities for people in its community, primarily aiding women and children. Seeing their work resonate so strongly with our community, especially on Palm Sunday, was truly meaningful.
If you did not get the chance to attend our last sale and see our new soapstone products in person, you are in luck because we still have a few in stock on our website! With that said, it’s also that time of the year again, where Spes Nova teams up with the Gabelli Dean’s Council and holds a sale at its business fairs. We will be there offering some of our best-selling products just three weeks away on Monday, April 27th, outside of Hughes Hall!
Along with our knitwear, we will also be selling these “must-have” items;
- Fordham Ram Piggybank
- Fordham-branded, patterned wallets (offered in a variety of colors)
- And much, much more!
This will be our last sale of the semester, so it is your last chance to see our products in person and buy directly from us on campus! Please mark your calendars now. We hope to see you there!
